Grok Subscriptions: SuperGrok, X Premium, and Paying Twice
Subscription guides
An X Premium subscriber seeing a Grok upgrade prompt has two separate questions: does the purchased tier include the required feature, and does this Grok account recognize that entitlement? Answer both before paying again. Facts were checked on October 9, 2026; your account’s current usage view remains the reference for its limits.
Turn “I need Grok” into a feature requirement
Do you mainly use the Grok app or publish on X? Do you need a particular model, video generation, or more capacity? Match each requirement to an explicit purchase-page entitlement. An X badge, social-platform features, and independent AI capacity are different purchase goals.
Current X guidance says Premium has increased Grok limits, while Premium+ includes SuperGrok access. Ordinary Premium should not be described as a full SuperGrok subscription. Items requiring verification in the table are deliberate boundaries: a tier name cannot establish equal allowances for every feature and surface.
| Plan | Established distinction | Verify in your account |
|---|---|---|
| X Basic | Basic paid X features | Do not infer Premium Grok benefits |
| X Premium | X features and increased Grok limits | Models, surfaces, and specific limits |
| X Premium+ | Higher X tier with SuperGrok access listed | Linked account and feature allowances |
| Standalone SuperGrok | Separate paid Grok offering | Overlap with existing Premium+ |
Check linked identities before comparing subscriptions
Grok offers Settings → Account → Connect your X Account to retrieve the X subscription and grant corresponding benefits. Verify that the linked X account is the one with membership, not another account you use frequently. Note your current sign-in method and account identity before switching during troubleshooting.
Check plan recognition before usage. If an Apple purchase used Hide My Email, use the original Apple sign-in rather than treating the relay address as an ordinary email login. Buying again on a different identity can leave two paid accounts without correcting the original mismatch.
- Identify the purchase channel and account: X, web, or App Store.
- Inspect the Grok identity and its X link, or use the original Apple sign-in.
- Recheck the recognized plan and Usage before diagnosing missing features.
An upgrade prompt can describe three different problems
The button alone is not diagnostic. Check whether the plan is recognized, whether the requested feature belongs to it, and whether the allowance is exhausted. Use observable evidence rather than repeatedly signing out and hoping.
If the purchase channel reports an active membership that Grok does not recognize, follow the official app-update and original-account sign-in guidance, then recheck. For a persistent mismatch, send official support a redacted transaction reference, account identity, and state screenshots instead of making a second test purchase.
| Evidence | Likely direction | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Active payment, no recognized plan | Identity / synchronization | Check sign-in and linking; contact support if unresolved |
| Recognized plan, feature absent | Tier does not cover the feature | Confirm required tier and compare incremental cost |
| Recognized plan, exhausted Usage | Periodic capacity | Check reset; compare waiting with extra usage |
Price recurring capacity against the same workload
Paid standalone Grok currently uses a shared weekly pool, with breakdown and reset time shown in Usage. Separate features do not each imply an independent fixed allowance. Inspect what applies to your own account; do not automatically apply standalone SuperGrok rules to ordinary X Premium.
Hold the workload constant. Suppose one extra image job each month costs 10 units in top-ups, while upgrading adds 30 units: the top-up is cheaper. If the same excess happens in four weeks, 40 exceeds 30 and the upgrade deserves investigation. These are illustrative units, not dollars or a current Grok quote.
The arithmetic still requires the higher tier to cover that workload and the billing periods to match. Check automatic top-ups too: effective monthly spending is subscription plus manual and automatic extra usage. With auto top-up enabled, the subscription price alone is not a spending ceiling.
What the shop’s X Premium product actually supplies
My shop currently offers official gifts of ordinary X Premium for three or six months. That is neither Premium+ nor standalone SuperGrok. Standalone Grok was still coming soon when reviewed; the link below is not a substitute for full SuperGrok requirements.
The product workflow uses the recipient’s X username without an X password. Check membership state and gift eligibility before buying. After delivery, verify the X tier and term, then inspect benefits in the linked Grok account. A blue checkmark also requires X review, so immediate badge appearance is not a suitable membership-delivery test.
Three- or six-month standard Premium gifts. Verify SuperGrok or Premium+ requirements separately.
